The award-winning beaches in Thanet you need to visit

Many Thanet beaches have recently been awarded an international Blue Flag award.

The award-winning beaches in Thanet you need to visit

Nowhere else in Kent has gained more awards.

The awards aim to improve the quality of England's coastline and promote England's best beaches, which are judged on cleanliness, safety, and tough water standards.

Here are the five Blue Flag beaches to visit this summer:

Minnis Bay

This long bay is perfect for a family day out and is well known to Thanet locals, and many take to the sea during the summer for watersports such as surfing, sailing, paddling, windsurfing, and kayaking.

The beach is mainly flat, too, perfect for beach games, walks, and sunbathing. There's also a paddling pool for the children with lifeguard service.

West Bay

Near Westgate-on-sea is another Thanet award-winning beach, famous for its rock pools which are ideal for children to explore. The sand at the bay is often relatively compact, perfect for sandcastle building.

Refreshments are nearby too, with a pub and promenade cafe just across from the beach.

St Mildred's

Adjacent to Westgate is the small bay of St Mildred's, which is also within walking distance of Margate. Backed by cliffs and a promenade, there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, beach chalets and deck chairs for hire nearby, as well as a tidal pool.

St Mildreds' is also known for being gloriously sandy and perfectly placed.

Botany Bay

Broadstairs' Botany bay is often described as a hidden bay in Thanet, offering stunning chalk stacks and white cliffs. Many enjoy fossil hunting on the bay once the tide is out, with plenty of exposed sand.

There is a hotel with a restaurant and cafe on the beach too while being very popular with photographers and artists capturing the sights around.

Stone Bay

Another beach in Broadstairs, Stone bay, is the quieter option compared to the other beaches. High, white chalk cliffs provide shelter from the breeze while creating a shadow over the bay when the sun dips in the afternoon.

There are beach huts all along the beach to enjoy, as well as no shortage of facilities.

Westbrook Bay

Westbrook bay is another quiet beach compared to others, with Margate main sands being the busier beach nearby. The bay is perfect for a family day out, having rockpools when the tide is out and the best sand for bucket and spades while being a popular water skiing spot in the summer.

Margate is less than a mile away from Westbrook, too, so you'll have everything you need very nearby.

Margate Main Sands

This timeless beach has everything you need for a great day out. The beach has a tidal pool and amusements and arcades, perfect for a vintage seaside experience. Restaurants, cafes, and seafood stalls are also only a short walk away into the town.

The beach has plenty of sand even when the tide is in and is famous for its amazing sunsets and sunrises.
